Constructed in 1909 five miles northwest of downtown Indianapolis, it was included on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum (IMSM) was established in 1956. It offers 37,500 square feet of exhibit space featuring cars, trophies, photographs, racing records, memorabilia, and fine art to interpret the national and international significance of motorsports.
